Initially joining Rvvup in a product advisory role, I became a full-time member of the leadership team in April 2022. I was tasked with leading Product Strategy and Growth, as well as supporting Series A fundraising readiness. My responsibilities included setting the product roadmap, coordinating the efforts of the product and engineering teams, and collaborating closely with commercial teams to identify opportunities in the prospecting pipeline. During my tenure at Rvvup, I accomplished the following:
1. Expanded Rvvup's checkout and APM (alternative payment) channels by integrating PayPal, Cards, and Crypto alongside BNPL and Open Banking. This involved identifying and negotiating terms with a third-party card acquirer to facilitate all card transactions through the gateway.
2. Designed and scoped a fully automated, AML-compliant onboarding workflow to enable instant decisioning for new merchants.
3. Created a 'hero' community of merchants, which served as the first line for product discovery and beta testing (early adopters).
4. Expanded the platform’s capabilities from supporting online-only merchants to accommodating offline use cases, allowing merchants to use Rvvup's technology for an in-store payment context.
5. Developed the specifications for a fee assessment pricing engine and ledger capable of operating across all payment methods within Rvvup's checkout. This included overseeing the integration with a Banking-as-a-Service vendor to offer merchants E-money accounts on the platform. This was implemented to counter the business being a non-EMI licensed entity.
6. Explored opportunities to incorporate AI, ML, and Data as a core capability of the platform. Initial product prototyping led to new features around data insights and recommendations, enabling merchants to perform smarter payment reconciliations, checkout optimisation and benefit from dynamic cost optimisation at checkout.
OUTCOME The business successfully acquired 170 business customers over 9 months and grew total payment volume (TPV) by 16x in preparation for Series A funding. I also established an 'emergent design' practice to enhance productivity among the design, product, and engineering teams, with the aim of accelerating time-to-market. The company operated on a bi-weekly release cycle, allowing us to ship features and validate product-market fit more rapidly.
